Narrative:
Complete autopilot failure at 500 ft shortly after selection of the autopilot flying an RNAV departure. Aircraft initiated a sharp right turn; immediate action was taken by hand flying the aircraft back to course to avoid a possible RNAV deviation. ATC was notified of the discrepancy; after a few minutes the autopilot finally did engaged and we decided to continue as we could comply with ATC and rvsm procedures to destination. Upon arrival aircraft entry was entered in the maintenance logbook.
