Narrative:
I was practicing landing, cross country flts, navigation, engine failure, etc. I had just departed fortuna airport and I simulated an engine failure over the van dugen river away from house, etc. I picked a point; flat river bar. I did not see any power lines across the river, they were not marked by yellow or red balls that I have seen on lines before across rivers. As I was adding power to begin climb to normal flight, I suddenly noticed power lines and immediately pulled up and applied full power. I hit the power lines on the nose wheel faring. I flew to murray field and landed the airplane , inspected and to call pg&east and the FAA to report the incident. In the future I will practice any flying right over an airport or in area that I'm more familiar with to avoid this from ever happening again.
