Narrative:
We were on vectors to a visual approach to kakr (uncontrolled airport). Akron canton approach was vectoring us for a visual to runway 25. At 20 mi out we contacted airport advisory on CTAF and on unicom. Local traffic doing touch and goes was the report. We announced our position and aircraft type. At about 7 mi from the airport we told approach we have the field in sight and cancelled IFR. We announced at that time we were 7 mi out on a wide base to final for runway 25. We could hear the aircraft in the pattern and pick out their location by their position reports. We were in landing confign with all lights out and on. We announced our intentions and location 3 more times on final. The pilot not flying picked up an small aircraft turning base to final right in front of us. I added power and started an immediate right turn and climb to avoid contact with the small aircraft. We never heard that particular aircraft call and attempts to raise him produced no reply. Even as the aircraft taxied in, operators on the field tried to raise him on the CTAF. We climbed to a pattern altitude of 1500' AGL and flew back over the airport and entered a left downwind (high and wide) for a second attempt. The second approach was without incident and normal. We always fly heads up and try to work into the pattern at uncontrolled airports. Since we were a little higher than the small aircraft, he blended into the terrain very easily. The small aircraft was light red in color which did not help matters. The small aircraft did not announce his position or intentions on the CTAF. He was a student pilot on his second solo in the pattern.

Narrative: WE WERE ON VECTORS TO A VISUAL APCH TO KAKR (UNCONTROLLED ARPT). AKRON CANTON APCH WAS VECTORING US FOR A VISUAL TO RWY 25. AT 20 MI OUT WE CONTACTED ARPT ADVISORY ON CTAF AND ON UNICOM. LCL TFC DOING TOUCH AND GOES WAS THE REPORT. WE ANNOUNCED OUR POSITION AND ACFT TYPE. AT ABOUT 7 MI FROM THE ARPT WE TOLD APCH WE HAVE THE FIELD IN SIGHT AND CANCELLED IFR. WE ANNOUNCED AT THAT TIME WE WERE 7 MI OUT ON A WIDE BASE TO FINAL FOR RWY 25. WE COULD HEAR THE ACFT IN THE PATTERN AND PICK OUT THEIR LOCATION BY THEIR POSITION REPORTS. WE WERE IN LNDG CONFIGN WITH ALL LIGHTS OUT AND ON. WE ANNOUNCED OUR INTENTIONS AND LOCATION 3 MORE TIMES ON FINAL. THE PLT NOT FLYING PICKED UP AN SMA TURNING BASE TO FINAL RIGHT IN FRONT OF US. I ADDED POWER AND STARTED AN IMMEDIATE RIGHT TURN AND CLIMB TO AVOID CONTACT WITH THE SMA. WE NEVER HEARD THAT PARTICULAR ACFT CALL AND ATTEMPTS TO RAISE HIM PRODUCED NO REPLY. EVEN AS THE ACFT TAXIED IN, OPERATORS ON THE FIELD TRIED TO RAISE HIM ON THE CTAF. WE CLIMBED TO A PATTERN ALT OF 1500' AGL AND FLEW BACK OVER THE ARPT AND ENTERED A LEFT DOWNWIND (HIGH AND WIDE) FOR A SECOND ATTEMPT. THE SECOND APCH WAS WITHOUT INCIDENT AND NORMAL. WE ALWAYS FLY HEADS UP AND TRY TO WORK INTO THE PATTERN AT UNCONTROLLED ARPTS. SINCE WE WERE A LITTLE HIGHER THAN THE SMA, HE BLENDED INTO THE TERRAIN VERY EASILY. THE SMA WAS LIGHT RED IN COLOR WHICH DID NOT HELP MATTERS. THE SMA DID NOT ANNOUNCE HIS POSITION OR INTENTIONS ON THE CTAF. HE WAS A STUDENT PLT ON HIS SECOND SOLO IN THE PATTERN.
