Narrative:

I was on final approach to landing runway 6 when I spotted another single engine aircraft ahead of and below me for landing. The other aircraft was soon observed to be making a low approach or a go around and I was then not in an attitude or position to make a normal landing, so I followed the other aircraft and aborted the landing. The other aircraft climbed out to the right. I stayed low and initiated a shallow left turn while trying to continually, visually track the other aircraft. During this shallow left turn my wingtip grazed the top leaves of our 80' tree. The aircraft continued to handle normally. Minor wingtip damage caused by: my abbreviated pattern approach, distraction on climb out and poor judgement.

Narrative: I WAS ON FINAL APCH TO LNDG RWY 6 WHEN I SPOTTED ANOTHER SINGLE ENGINE ACFT AHEAD OF AND BELOW ME FOR LNDG. THE OTHER ACFT WAS SOON OBSERVED TO BE MAKING A LOW APCH OR A GO AROUND AND I WAS THEN NOT IN AN ATTITUDE OR POSITION TO MAKE A NORMAL LNDG, SO I FOLLOWED THE OTHER ACFT AND ABORTED THE LNDG. THE OTHER ACFT CLIMBED OUT TO THE RIGHT. I STAYED LOW AND INITIATED A SHALLOW LEFT TURN WHILE TRYING TO CONTINUALLY, VISUALLY TRACK THE OTHER ACFT. DURING THIS SHALLOW LEFT TURN MY WINGTIP GRAZED THE TOP LEAVES OF OUR 80' TREE. THE ACFT CONTINUED TO HANDLE NORMALLY. MINOR WINGTIP DAMAGE CAUSED BY: MY ABBREVIATED PATTERN APCH, DISTR ON CLIMB OUT AND POOR JUDGEMENT.
