Narrative:
This was a part 135 scheduled VFR flight in a cessna 208B. On our descent into kahului; hcf has us contact hcf on 119.5. After checking in with hcf 119.5 around the intersection maken; the controller has us turn to a heading of 280. We leveled off at 5;500 MSL since the vector would be taking us offshore in order to maintain glide distance requirements. After being on the 280 vector for about 5 minutes; we are just northwest of the island of kaho'olawe when the near miss occurred. The other plane was an airliner which was also being vectored inbound for kahului. The airliner passed 100 ft horizontal and 0 ft vertical below us. I believe the airliner was on a [360] heading vector. Not once were we advised of the traffic.
