Narrative:
Landed 8R on visual approach. Tower cleared our flight to taxi to the gate. I exited the runway, made a left on the parallel taxiway, then a right turn on taxiway bravo, then a left onto the next farthest parallel then a right to the ramp area. Then the captain looked at me and stated that bravo was only stressed for 40,000 pounds according to the small note on the taxi chart. Problem was caused by: 1) inadequately reviewing the taxi and airport depictions and reviewing the notes, 2) inadequately marked taxiway, 3) failure of ground control to advise us of the restriction. The taxiway does not appear any different than the txwys around it, all of which are not restr. To correct the situation, I would suggest the following: 1) post a sign at all entrances to taxiway bravo cautioning of the weight restriction, since air carrier aircraft utilize the txwys immediately surrounding it continuously. 2) have tower controllers advise taxiing aircraft obviously in excess of the 40,000 pounds restrictions of a taxi route other than utilizing bravo. Note: if cleared to 'taxi to the ramp' include 'do not taxi on bravo'. 3) suggest to municipal/city/airport authority to reconstruct taxiway to meet current/future air carrier weights.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FO TAXIING MLG ACFT ENTERED TXWY RESTRICTED TO LESS HEAVY ACFT.
Narrative: LANDED 8R ON VISUAL APCH. TWR CLRED OUR FLT TO TAXI TO THE GATE. I EXITED THE RWY, MADE A LEFT ON THE PARALLEL TXWY, THEN A RIGHT TURN ON TXWY BRAVO, THEN A LEFT ONTO THE NEXT FARTHEST PARALLEL THEN A RIGHT TO THE RAMP AREA. THEN THE CAPT LOOKED AT ME AND STATED THAT BRAVO WAS ONLY STRESSED FOR 40,000 LBS ACCORDING TO THE SMALL NOTE ON THE TAXI CHART. PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY: 1) INADEQUATELY REVIEWING THE TAXI AND ARPT DEPICTIONS AND REVIEWING THE NOTES, 2) INADEQUATELY MARKED TXWY, 3) FAILURE OF GND CTL TO ADVISE US OF THE RESTRICTION. THE TXWY DOES NOT APPEAR ANY DIFFERENT THAN THE TXWYS AROUND IT, ALL OF WHICH ARE NOT RESTR. TO CORRECT THE SITUATION, I WOULD SUGGEST THE FOLLOWING: 1) POST A SIGN AT ALL ENTRANCES TO TXWY BRAVO CAUTIONING OF THE WEIGHT RESTRICTION, SINCE AIR CARRIER ACFT UTILIZE THE TXWYS IMMEDIATELY SURROUNDING IT CONTINUOUSLY. 2) HAVE TWR CTLRS ADVISE TAXIING ACFT OBVIOUSLY IN EXCESS OF THE 40,000 LBS RESTRICTIONS OF A TAXI ROUTE OTHER THAN UTILIZING BRAVO. NOTE: IF CLRED TO 'TAXI TO THE RAMP' INCLUDE 'DO NOT TAXI ON BRAVO'. 3) SUGGEST TO MUNICIPAL/CITY/ARPT AUTHORITY TO RECONSTRUCT TXWY TO MEET CURRENT/FUTURE AIR CARRIER WEIGHTS.
