Narrative:
Taxiing to gate at boston logan int'l, approaching gate area, were aware of parked small transport aircraft on left side of gate area in obvious position where left wing would pass over it. With full time monitoring of wing talkers, we were marshalled to a stop at the gate without incident and with more than adequate clearance of left wing. Since the jetway could not be properly positioned for deplaning, we had to be repositioned with a tug but not before the small transport was pushed back for more clearance. After being repositioned by a tug, jetway was finally positioned and passenger deplaned. During the repositioning of the aircraft, a supervisor from massport was present observing the operation and was overheard mentioning a 'violation' which has therefore prompted this report, since the widebody transport is routinely positioned with its wings over smaller aircraft and ground equipment, and wing walkers were present the entire time, the entire operation was considered safe.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: PARKING PROCS COMPLETED WITH PROPER ASSISTANCE. ARPT AUTHORITY SUPVR SPOKE OF VIOLATION.
Narrative: TAXIING TO GATE AT BOSTON LOGAN INT'L, APCHING GATE AREA, WERE AWARE OF PARKED SMT ACFT ON LEFT SIDE OF GATE AREA IN OBVIOUS POSITION WHERE LEFT WING WOULD PASS OVER IT. WITH FULL TIME MONITORING OF WING TALKERS, WE WERE MARSHALLED TO A STOP AT THE GATE WITHOUT INCIDENT AND WITH MORE THAN ADEQUATE CLRNC OF LEFT WING. SINCE THE JETWAY COULD NOT BE PROPERLY POSITIONED FOR DEPLANING, WE HAD TO BE REPOSITIONED WITH A TUG BUT NOT BEFORE THE SMT WAS PUSHED BACK FOR MORE CLRNC. AFTER BEING REPOSITIONED BY A TUG, JETWAY WAS FINALLY POSITIONED AND PAX DEPLANED. DURING THE REPOSITIONING OF THE ACFT, A SUPVR FROM MASSPORT WAS PRESENT OBSERVING THE OPERATION AND WAS OVERHEARD MENTIONING A 'VIOLATION' WHICH HAS THEREFORE PROMPTED THIS REPORT, SINCE THE WDB IS ROUTINELY POSITIONED WITH ITS WINGS OVER SMALLER ACFT AND GND EQUIPMENT, AND WING WALKERS WERE PRESENT THE ENTIRE TIME, THE ENTIRE OPERATION WAS CONSIDERED SAFE.
