Narrative:

I departed aretz airport (3AR) with an instructor I had not flown with before, in preparation for my instrument flight test (due to a conflict with my regular instructor). My instructor (CFI) called lafayette approach to shoot the VOR C approach, however, I accidentally dialed in the 143 degree right instead of the 116 degree right on the VOR. I flew what I thought was the VOR C, but was indeed the radial for the VOR a approach into lafayette airport. My instructor called approach on the way in to report crossing the FAF (pushy). I proceeded inbound but forgot to descend below 2000 MSL in my descent to the MDA. When my instructor told me to take off my hood, I immediately realized we were over the lafayette airport and not 3AR. I suggested calling laf tower and explaining the mistake from the air. My CFI said that this was not a problem worthy of contacting the tower and to depart back to aretz airport. Upon arriving back at 3AR there was a message to call the tower. My instructor called the tower and told me that everything had been resolved. I believe my instructor was unfamiliar with the lafayette area at night and was unsure of our position throughout the approach.

Title: GA SMA ON PRACTICE IAP VOR APCH FLEW THE WRONG RADIAL AND ENTERED LAF ATA UNAUTHORIZED.

Narrative: I DEPARTED ARETZ ARPT (3AR) WITH AN INSTRUCTOR I HAD NOT FLOWN WITH BEFORE, IN PREPARATION FOR MY INSTRUMENT FLT TEST (DUE TO A CONFLICT WITH MY REGULAR INSTRUCTOR). MY INSTRUCTOR (CFI) CALLED LAFAYETTE APCH TO SHOOT THE VOR C APCH, HOWEVER, I ACCIDENTALLY DIALED IN THE 143 DEG R INSTEAD OF THE 116 DEG R ON THE VOR. I FLEW WHAT I THOUGHT WAS THE VOR C, BUT WAS INDEED THE RADIAL FOR THE VOR A APCH INTO LAFAYETTE ARPT. MY INSTRUCTOR CALLED APCH ON THE WAY IN TO REPORT XING THE FAF (PUSHY). I PROCEEDED INBND BUT FORGOT TO DSND BELOW 2000 MSL IN MY DSCNT TO THE MDA. WHEN MY INSTRUCTOR TOLD ME TO TAKE OFF MY HOOD, I IMMEDIATELY REALIZED WE WERE OVER THE LAFAYETTE ARPT AND NOT 3AR. I SUGGESTED CALLING LAF TWR AND EXPLAINING THE MISTAKE FROM THE AIR. MY CFI SAID THAT THIS WAS NOT A PROBLEM WORTHY OF CONTACTING THE TWR AND TO DEPART BACK TO ARETZ ARPT. UPON ARRIVING BACK AT 3AR THERE WAS A MESSAGE TO CALL THE TWR. MY INSTRUCTOR CALLED THE TWR AND TOLD ME THAT EVERYTHING HAD BEEN RESOLVED. I BELIEVE MY INSTRUCTOR WAS UNFAMILIAR WITH THE LAFAYETTE AREA AT NIGHT AND WAS UNSURE OF OUR POSITION THROUGHOUT THE APCH.
