Narrative:
Incident occurred during pattern ops. Owner in left seat; self in right seat as instructor. On third approach (following two full stop landings) I indicated to student that I would demonstrate a short field approach and landing. On late downwind I assumed control of the aircraft through positive exchange of controls. Short field approach was conducted with verbal instruction. Landing was gear up following failure of gear unsafe warning in flight idle power with full flap. I had mistakenly assumed that gear had been extended by owner during downwind prior to assuming control; and had not double checked status during final approach under high cockpit workload conditions while giving instruction.
