Narrative:
Lax was using a configuration which rarely occurs with arrivals on runway 6 left and departures on 6 right. As we made our approach to runway 6 left with clearance to land I noted an airbus taxiing toward the approach end of runway 6 right. I also noted the cars which follow under the wings as the airbus taxis with their yellow rotating lights displayed. These airport vehicles apparently make sure that the wings of the airbus do not strike or collide with any objects. At about one mile I distinctly heard tower clear the airbus to position and hold on runway 6 right. My first officer landed and our first available taxiway to clear at was stub taxiway west. I took control and taxied down the runway to exit west for runway 6 left. As I started to clear the runway I heard tower clear the airbus for takeoff. I was told to hold short of runway 6 right.I observed the limited space to hold between runways 6 left and 6 right on stub taxiway west. Aware that an airbus with its longer wings might overhang the hold short area I slowly exited the wet runway. I saw no safe way to clear the tail of my aircraft off of runway 6 left and still provide a safe area in front of me given the airbus's wing span. I informed tower that I could not clear runway 6 left fully. They asked me to clear a second time but I informed them that it was a safety of flight issue and I could not fully clear runway 6 left.tower directed an aircraft landing behind me to go around due to my tail obstructing runway 6 left. At about that time my first officer and I observed the airbus pass by our position on stub taxiway west. The left wingtip of the airbus was definitely protruding into the hold short area by several feet and about at cockpit height. The winds were 090 at about 9 to 15 knots blowing the airbus in our direction. Although the airbus had rotated and his main wheels were off the ground by 5 to 7 feet his left wingtip was definitely too close to where we could have pulled up to.if for any reason the airbus aborted or drifted toward us there could have been a major accident. Tower called me and asked for an explanation. I informed them that in my judgment there was a safety of flight issue with getting too close to the hold short on taxiway west with an airbus taking off and his left wing very close to our nose. I would rather have to fill out this as soon as possible than experience a major aircraft accident. In my opinion; holding a large aircraft on taxiway west while departing an airbus is dangerous.

Title: Pilot reports of being told to hold short of a runway while a Super aircraft departs in front of his aircraft. Pilot advises Tower that he won't be clear of landing runway due to safety concerns. Traffic is sent around. Pilot complains of unsafe action by departing the Super in front of a large aircraft.
