Narrative:

'Cleared as filed flipr 3 imperial transition.' after takeoff we were vectored through the 114 degree right of vtu and then received several additional vectors prior to the clearance which caused the confusion. 'Turn to heading 090 degrees to intercept the 118 degree right of lax, intercept the transition.' we turned to 090 degrees and set up the radios: captain on the 282 degree right inbound to ocn and the first officer on the lax 118 degree right. On the 090 degree heading we intercepted the ocn 282 degree right and tracked inbound toward ocn. In the meantime, we had been sent to the next sector frequency. This controller asked how we were navigating. I replied that we were tracking the ocn 282 degree right which was our transition routing. He said that we should have intercepted the lax 118 degree right, and then the transition. I replied that we were on cleared on the imp transition, and not the mzb transition. He said that we still should have intercepted the lax 118 degree right before proceeding on the ocn 282 degree right. I told him that we had been cleared to intercept the transition and that we hit the ocn 282 degree right before the lax 118 degree right. After a long pause he said, 'oh, I see what you did,' and then sent us to a new frequency.

Title: CLRNC FOR WDB FLT CREW WAS TO INTERCEPT 118 DEGREE RADIAL OF LAX. FLT CREW INTERCEPTED 282 DEGREE RADIAL INBOUND TO OCN.

Narrative: 'CLRED AS FILED FLIPR 3 IMPERIAL TRANSITION.' AFTER TKOF WE WERE VECTORED THROUGH THE 114 DEG R OF VTU AND THEN RECEIVED SEVERAL ADDITIONAL VECTORS PRIOR TO THE CLRNC WHICH CAUSED THE CONFUSION. 'TURN TO HDG 090 DEGS TO INTERCEPT THE 118 DEG R OF LAX, INTERCEPT THE TRANSITION.' WE TURNED TO 090 DEGS AND SET UP THE RADIOS: CAPT ON THE 282 DEG R INBND TO OCN AND THE F/O ON THE LAX 118 DEG R. ON THE 090 DEG HDG WE INTERCEPTED THE OCN 282 DEG R AND TRACKED INBND TOWARD OCN. IN THE MEANTIME, WE HAD BEEN SENT TO THE NEXT SECTOR FREQ. THIS CTLR ASKED HOW WE WERE NAVIGATING. I REPLIED THAT WE WERE TRACKING THE OCN 282 DEG R WHICH WAS OUR TRANSITION ROUTING. HE SAID THAT WE SHOULD HAVE INTERCEPTED THE LAX 118 DEG R, AND THEN THE TRANSITION. I REPLIED THAT WE WERE ON CLRED ON THE IMP TRANSITION, AND NOT THE MZB TRANSITION. HE SAID THAT WE STILL SHOULD HAVE INTERCEPTED THE LAX 118 DEG R BEFORE PROCEEDING ON THE OCN 282 DEG R. I TOLD HIM THAT WE HAD BEEN CLRED TO INTERCEPT THE TRANSITION AND THAT WE HIT THE OCN 282 DEG R BEFORE THE LAX 118 DEG R. AFTER A LONG PAUSE HE SAID, 'OH, I SEE WHAT YOU DID,' AND THEN SENT US TO A NEW FREQ.
