Narrative:
While working a departing flight we received pushback clearance from captain. As we were about to leave gate the jetbridge started moving towards the aircraft with no visible thumbs up from the ground crew that it was safe to approach aircraft. The dispatcher informed captain that the bridge was returning which he was unaware of. The captain set brakes; apparently customer service wanted to put on one more customer. This practice was completely unsafe as the gate lead I have a radio and no communication was made to inform me that the service director made this call. The heads up action to the aircraft dispatcher probably prevented serious damage to the aircraft.
