Narrative:
I was the radar controller, the aircraft was coming up on the atlanta center boundary and the handoff controller told me to switch the aircraft to atlanta frequency (the data block did not indicate that the aircraft was handed off by the computer). I thought the handoff controller gave atlanta center a manual handoff. I later found out he didn't. It was very busy (about 18 aircraft). I found out that the flight plan did not go on line to atlanta center and the computer gave the manual controller a message stating this, but the manual controller did nothing to rectify the situation, therefore atlanta center had no information on the flight. The handoff controller was busy on the handoff line, which led me to believe he was doing the manual coordination. When he told me to turn the aircraft over to atlanta center, I was convinced he had taken care of the coordination, but he didn't and he didn't realize it until the aircraft was in atlanta center's airspace.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACFT PENETRATED ADJACENT FAC AIRSPACE WITHOUT COORD.
Narrative: I WAS THE RADAR CTLR, THE ACFT WAS COMING UP ON THE ATLANTA CENTER BOUNDARY AND THE HANDOFF CTLR TOLD ME TO SWITCH THE ACFT TO ATLANTA FREQ (THE DATA BLOCK DID NOT INDICATE THAT THE ACFT WAS HANDED OFF BY THE COMPUTER). I THOUGHT THE HANDOFF CTLR GAVE ATLANTA CENTER A MANUAL HANDOFF. I LATER FOUND OUT HE DIDN'T. IT WAS VERY BUSY (ABOUT 18 ACFT). I FOUND OUT THAT THE FLT PLAN DID NOT GO ON LINE TO ATLANTA CENTER AND THE COMPUTER GAVE THE MANUAL CTLR A MESSAGE STATING THIS, BUT THE MANUAL CTLR DID NOTHING TO RECTIFY THE SITUATION, THEREFORE ATLANTA CENTER HAD NO INFO ON THE FLT. THE HANDOFF CTLR WAS BUSY ON THE HANDOFF LINE, WHICH LED ME TO BELIEVE HE WAS DOING THE MANUAL COORD. WHEN HE TOLD ME TO TURN THE ACFT OVER TO ATLANTA CENTER, I WAS CONVINCED HE HAD TAKEN CARE OF THE COORD, BUT HE DIDN'T AND HE DIDN'T REALIZE IT UNTIL THE ACFT WAS IN ATLANTA CENTER'S AIRSPACE.
