Departed and 80 miles west; right recirc fan tripped off with associated EICAS message. QRH procedure performed. Flight attendant's [flight attendant] report fumes and haze in cabin. Dispatch notified; vectors to return the departure airport. Landing; and overweight landing checklists performed. Arf standing by; normal landing; fire chief inspected outside aircraft; returned to gate.
