Narrative:
While on an ILS instrument approach to runway 36L charlotte, nc, air carrier X was following an small aircraft Y. He had been told to maintain 150 KTS until a 5 mi final. He refused the clearance. We were asked to slow to 160 KTS and maintain until passing the final approach fix (glasi). We did as instructed. We were switched to the tower just inside the outer marker. We contacted the tower and reported our position we were asked to slow. The tower told small aircraft Y to plan on minimum time on the runway due to jet traffic (us) following. As we continued our approach nothing more regarding separation was said. At 500' AGL we were told to 'go around'. We complied with the instructions. As we initiated our missed approach small aircraft Y reported that he had also missed approached. The tower told us to start our turn immediately, the tone of the controller's voice indicated that we were closer than he had intended. We tightened the turn and continued to our assigned altitude. We did not ever see small aircraft Y. I don't know how close we were but I believe that separation was compromised. The tower controller made no further comment regarding the incident.

Title: ACR X AND SMA Y MISSED APCH SIMULTANEOUSLY.
Narrative: WHILE ON AN ILS INSTRUMENT APCH TO RWY 36L CHARLOTTE, NC, ACR X WAS FOLLOWING AN SMA Y. HE HAD BEEN TOLD TO MAINTAIN 150 KTS UNTIL A 5 MI FINAL. HE REFUSED THE CLRNC. WE WERE ASKED TO SLOW TO 160 KTS AND MAINTAIN UNTIL PASSING THE FINAL APCH FIX (GLASI). WE DID AS INSTRUCTED. WE WERE SWITCHED TO THE TWR JUST INSIDE THE OUTER MARKER. WE CONTACTED THE TWR AND REPORTED OUR POSITION WE WERE ASKED TO SLOW. THE TWR TOLD SMA Y TO PLAN ON MINIMUM TIME ON THE RWY DUE TO JET TFC (US) FOLLOWING. AS WE CONTINUED OUR APCH NOTHING MORE REGARDING SEPARATION WAS SAID. AT 500' AGL WE WERE TOLD TO 'GO AROUND'. WE COMPLIED WITH THE INSTRUCTIONS. AS WE INITIATED OUR MISSED APCH SMA Y REPORTED THAT HE HAD ALSO MISSED APCHED. THE TWR TOLD US TO START OUR TURN IMMEDIATELY, THE TONE OF THE CTLR'S VOICE INDICATED THAT WE WERE CLOSER THAN HE HAD INTENDED. WE TIGHTENED THE TURN AND CONTINUED TO OUR ASSIGNED ALT. WE DID NOT EVER SEE SMA Y. I DON'T KNOW HOW CLOSE WE WERE BUT I BELIEVE THAT SEPARATION WAS COMPROMISED. THE TWR CTLR MADE NO FURTHER COMMENT REGARDING THE INCIDENT.
