Narrative:
While doing pattern work with a student the aircraft encountered a downdraft or windshear on short final. We were practicing short field approachs at the time. The airplane landed short of the runway, 50 to 100 yds from the threshold, in shallow water (1' deep). There was no damage to the airplane and no injury to the occupants. Corrective action at the time consisted of the addition of full power as soon as the excessive descent rate was idented; however, this was insufficient to prevent the aircraft's entry into the shallow water.

Title: SMA ON TRAINING FLT TOUCHES DOWN SHORT OF RWY. REPORTER CLAIMS THE FLT ENCOUNTERED A DOWNDRAFT OR WINDSHEAR.
Narrative: WHILE DOING PATTERN WORK WITH A STUDENT THE ACFT ENCOUNTERED A DOWNDRAFT OR WINDSHEAR ON SHORT FINAL. WE WERE PRACTICING SHORT FIELD APCHS AT THE TIME. THE AIRPLANE LANDED SHORT OF THE RWY, 50 TO 100 YDS FROM THE THRESHOLD, IN SHALLOW WATER (1' DEEP). THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE AIRPLANE AND NO INJURY TO THE OCCUPANTS. CORRECTIVE ACTION AT THE TIME CONSISTED OF THE ADDITION OF FULL PWR AS SOON AS THE EXCESSIVE DSCNT RATE WAS IDENTED; HOWEVER, THIS WAS INSUFFICIENT TO PREVENT THE ACFT'S ENTRY INTO THE SHALLOW WATER.
