Narrative:
We had been cleared for takeoff on runway 8L departing east. On climb out from phx airport the tower controller advised us that we had traffic at 3 O'clock position at 2300'. I looked to the right out my window. Just aft of our wing I saw the aircraft. It appeared to be in a left turn toward our flight path. I acknowledged the traffic and also indicated it looked close. The tower's response was 'the traffic would be going behind us.' I agreed. At the time we were climbing 2000 FPM, climbing through 2600'.
