Narrative:
When 2 mi out I reported my position. Key tower had already cleared me to land when I was told to report a 2 mi final, so I was not looking for another aircraft. When I reported a 2 mi final key tower asked if it was the small aircraft Y or the small transport X on short final to 19. My passenger who is also a pilot and I started look hard for the other plane. By dipping my right wing we saw the small aircraft Y at 3 O'clock and breaking off to the west. Key tower had cleared him to land before I came up on tower's frequency and I did not know he was cleared to land ahead of me. Since he had broken off his approach, I landed first. All that would have been necessary to have prevented this incident would have been for key tower to have told me that I was #2 to land behind the small aircraft Y. The small aircraft Y was from the northwest. I was straight-in and he was on an angle to the runway. We came within 400' to 500' of each other and saw each other at about the same time. The pilot of the small aircraft Y knew I was on final but did not see me until I was beside him. His airspeed was 100 KTS and mine was 125 KTS so I was passing him on final when we saw each other.

Title: SMT AND SMA HAD CONFLICT ON FINAL TO TWR CTLED ARPT.
Narrative: WHEN 2 MI OUT I RPTED MY POS. KEY TWR HAD ALREADY CLRED ME TO LAND WHEN I WAS TOLD TO RPT A 2 MI FINAL, SO I WAS NOT LOOKING FOR ANOTHER ACFT. WHEN I RPTED A 2 MI FINAL KEY TWR ASKED IF IT WAS THE SMA Y OR THE SMT X ON SHORT FINAL TO 19. MY PAX WHO IS ALSO A PLT AND I STARTED LOOK HARD FOR THE OTHER PLANE. BY DIPPING MY R WING WE SAW THE SMA Y AT 3 O'CLOCK AND BREAKING OFF TO THE W. KEY TWR HAD CLRED HIM TO LAND BEFORE I CAME UP ON TWR'S FREQ AND I DID NOT KNOW HE WAS CLRED TO LAND AHEAD OF ME. SINCE HE HAD BROKEN OFF HIS APCH, I LANDED FIRST. ALL THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN NECESSARY TO HAVE PREVENTED THIS INCIDENT WOULD HAVE BEEN FOR KEY TWR TO HAVE TOLD ME THAT I WAS #2 TO LAND BEHIND THE SMA Y. THE SMA Y WAS FROM THE NW. I WAS STRAIGHT-IN AND HE WAS ON AN ANGLE TO THE RWY. WE CAME WITHIN 400' TO 500' OF EACH OTHER AND SAW EACH OTHER AT ABOUT THE SAME TIME. THE PLT OF THE SMA Y KNEW I WAS ON FINAL BUT DID NOT SEE ME UNTIL I WAS BESIDE HIM. HIS AIRSPD WAS 100 KTS AND MINE WAS 125 KTS SO I WAS PASSING HIM ON FINAL WHEN WE SAW EACH OTHER.
