Narrative:
I took off from rogers airport, after 2 briefings, believing the tops were at 7000 MSL and also knowing ice was reported in the clouds above freezing level. As I approached tulsa we were handed from ZKC to tulsa approach. At that time I requested 12000' to get over the tops, we were currently in the clear. I realized the tops were above us at approximately 14000-16000 but the clouds were very thin and reported to be 70-110 miles wide so I decided to penetrate to see if there was ice. We picked up ice within 3 min of cloud penetration and I asked for a 180 degree turn. As we exited the clouds we headed back to rcz while I called flight watch which we tried a more southerly route. We entered the clouds and began to ice again at which time I asked for another 180 turn. The controller's reply indicated it would be a few moments at which time I began a 180 degree turn and started a climb to get out of icing as soon as possible for the safety of the flight. I deviated from altitude and course without permission which occurred because of my determined attitude to complete the flight over the shortest route and more thorough briefing was necessary.

Title: ALT DEVIATION. TRACK DEVIATION. INFLT WX ENCOUNTER.
Narrative: I TOOK OFF FROM ROGERS ARPT, AFTER 2 BRIEFINGS, BELIEVING THE TOPS WERE AT 7000 MSL AND ALSO KNOWING ICE WAS REPORTED IN THE CLOUDS ABOVE FREEZING LEVEL. AS I APCHED TULSA WE WERE HANDED FROM ZKC TO TULSA APCH. AT THAT TIME I REQUESTED 12000' TO GET OVER THE TOPS, WE WERE CURRENTLY IN THE CLEAR. I REALIZED THE TOPS WERE ABOVE US AT APPROX 14000-16000 BUT THE CLOUDS WERE VERY THIN AND REPORTED TO BE 70-110 MILES WIDE SO I DECIDED TO PENETRATE TO SEE IF THERE WAS ICE. WE PICKED UP ICE WITHIN 3 MIN OF CLOUD PENETRATION AND I ASKED FOR A 180 DEG TURN. AS WE EXITED THE CLOUDS WE HEADED BACK TO RCZ WHILE I CALLED FLT WATCH WHICH WE TRIED A MORE SOUTHERLY ROUTE. WE ENTERED THE CLOUDS AND BEGAN TO ICE AGAIN AT WHICH TIME I ASKED FOR ANOTHER 180 TURN. THE CTLR'S REPLY INDICATED IT WOULD BE A FEW MOMENTS AT WHICH TIME I BEGAN A 180 DEG TURN AND STARTED A CLIMB TO GET OUT OF ICING AS SOON AS POSSIBLE FOR THE SAFETY OF THE FLT. I DEVIATED FROM ALT AND COURSE WITHOUT PERMISSION WHICH OCCURRED BECAUSE OF MY DETERMINED ATTITUDE TO COMPLETE THE FLT OVER THE SHORTEST ROUTE AND MORE THOROUGH BRIEFING WAS NECESSARY.
