Narrative:
Performed takeoff from parallel taxiway, unintentional. Reasons: unfamiliar with west side of airport. Events: leaving FBO after maintenance. Tower said to taxi to, hold short of runway 1L. I taxied to parallel taxiway thinking it was runway. Performed run-up. Before run-up completed, I was asked by tower if I was ready to go. I rushed to finish and said ready. I was then cleared for takeoff. I line up on taxiway to set dg. Tower didn't advise my position. I performed takeoff. On left turn-out tower advised that I took off from taxiway. I feel that before applying power, my intentions were well demonstrated and should have been noticed by controllers, who then should have warned me of my mistake. Once takeoff roll was initiated, controllers it seems could make no mistake as to ascertaining my intentions--if they were paying attention--and should have advised me of the error so that I could abort. Perhaps controllers were aware, but figured it safer to let me proceed, knowing there was no merging ground traffic. I saw no signs designating a taxiway; if they are there, they were obscured by snow.

Title: GA SMA TXWY TKOF AT FAI.
Narrative: PERFORMED TKOF FROM PARALLEL TXWY, UNINTENTIONAL. REASONS: UNFAMILIAR WITH W SIDE OF ARPT. EVENTS: LEAVING FBO AFTER MAINT. TWR SAID TO TAXI TO, HOLD SHORT OF RWY 1L. I TAXIED TO PARALLEL TXWY THINKING IT WAS RWY. PERFORMED RUN-UP. BEFORE RUN-UP COMPLETED, I WAS ASKED BY TWR IF I WAS READY TO GO. I RUSHED TO FINISH AND SAID READY. I WAS THEN CLRED FOR TKOF. I LINE UP ON TXWY TO SET DG. TWR DIDN'T ADVISE MY POS. I PERFORMED TKOF. ON LEFT TURN-OUT TWR ADVISED THAT I TOOK OFF FROM TXWY. I FEEL THAT BEFORE APPLYING PWR, MY INTENTIONS WERE WELL DEMONSTRATED AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN NOTICED BY CTLRS, WHO THEN SHOULD HAVE WARNED ME OF MY MISTAKE. ONCE TKOF ROLL WAS INITIATED, CTLRS IT SEEMS COULD MAKE NO MISTAKE AS TO ASCERTAINING MY INTENTIONS--IF THEY WERE PAYING ATTN--AND SHOULD HAVE ADVISED ME OF THE ERROR SO THAT I COULD ABORT. PERHAPS CTLRS WERE AWARE, BUT FIGURED IT SAFER TO LET ME PROCEED, KNOWING THERE WAS NO MERGING GND TFC. I SAW NO SIGNS DESIGNATING A TXWY; IF THEY ARE THERE, THEY WERE OBSCURED BY SNOW.
