Narrative:
When we were able to call for push at lax on clearance delivery for pushback clearance, we were told to stand by. At approximately XA05 PDT, clearance delivery cleared us to push and start and call ground for taxi. They also advised us we had a wheels-up time of XA09-XA11 (7 mins maximum). We were flying an medium large transport XXXX with high bypass ratio engines that generally take a couple of mins to start each. In other words, we were going to have to hustle to make it by XA11. (Luckily our aircraft had the new model APU that will crank the XXXX almost as quickly as the XXXY, and our gate ab at term C was only about 100 yds from the approach end of runway 24L.) after engine start, it was impossible to get through to ground control for taxi clearance because of congestion on the frequency. I elected to taxi the short distance to the runway (approximately 100 yds) west/O talking to ground. When we called tower, we were cleared for takeoff immediately. Nothing was said to us about our failure to call ground.

Title: TAXI WITHOUT CLRNC.
Narrative: WHEN WE WERE ABLE TO CALL FOR PUSH AT LAX ON CLRNC DELIVERY FOR PUSHBACK CLRNC, WE WERE TOLD TO STAND BY. AT APPROX XA05 PDT, CLRNC DELIVERY CLRED US TO PUSH AND START AND CALL GND FOR TAXI. THEY ALSO ADVISED US WE HAD A WHEELS-UP TIME OF XA09-XA11 (7 MINS MAX). WE WERE FLYING AN MLG XXXX WITH HIGH BYPASS RATIO ENGS THAT GENERALLY TAKE A COUPLE OF MINS TO START EACH. IN OTHER WORDS, WE WERE GOING TO HAVE TO HUSTLE TO MAKE IT BY XA11. (LUCKILY OUR ACFT HAD THE NEW MODEL APU THAT WILL CRANK THE XXXX ALMOST AS QUICKLY AS THE XXXY, AND OUR GATE AB AT TERM C WAS ONLY ABOUT 100 YDS FROM THE APCH END OF RWY 24L.) AFTER ENG START, IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO GET THROUGH TO GND CTL FOR TAXI CLRNC BECAUSE OF CONGESTION ON THE FREQ. I ELECTED TO TAXI THE SHORT DISTANCE TO THE RWY (APPROX 100 YDS) W/O TALKING TO GND. WHEN WE CALLED TWR, WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF IMMEDIATELY. NOTHING WAS SAID TO US ABOUT OUR FAILURE TO CALL GND.
