Narrative:
I was decombining the sarasota high and macdill sectors from the sarasota low position. Mia ARTCC called to appreq an MTR over ardia intersection direct viola intersection, direct srq direct pie at 9000'. The frequencys and airspace had been released to me and based on known traffic I approved the routing and accepted a manual heading as radar contact. About 4-5 mins later I observed a tagged target at the military aircraft's 12 O'clock position, 5 mi. (I did not have communication with the military aircraft.) I 'quick-looked' the tag which was on an 'south' position symbol (srq low position) and it was an small aircraft at 9000'. I immediately told the srq low controller of the problem and he attempted to contact the small aircraft pilot 3 times with no result. I still had no contact with the military MTR. After the targets merged the small aircraft pilot contacted the srq low controller and advised he had an aircraft pass close to him at the same altitude. The MTR pilot later called on the srq low position's UHF frequency and he was not aware that he had passed closed to the small aircraft. I feel that I did not receive a complete position briefing when I assumed the airspace as there was still traffic in my airspace that I did not have knowledge of.

Title: WHILE DECOMBINING 2 SECTORS, TRACON CTLR APPROVED AN MTR THROUGH HIS SPACE WITHOUT THE KNOWLEDGE OF ANOTHER ACFT AT THE SAME ALT AND OPPOSITE DIRECTION. THE 2 ACFT PASSED WITH LESS THAN STANDARD SEPARATION.

I 'QUICK-LOOKED' THE TAG WHICH WAS ON AN 'S' POS SYMBOL (SRQ LOW POS) AND IT WAS AN SMA AT 9000'. I IMMEDIATELY TOLD THE SRQ LOW CTLR OF THE PROB AND HE ATTEMPTED TO CONTACT THE SMA PLT 3 TIMES WITH NO RESULT. I STILL HAD NO CONTACT WITH THE MIL MTR. AFTER THE TARGETS MERGED THE SMA PLT CONTACTED THE SRQ LOW CTLR AND ADVISED HE HAD AN ACFT PASS CLOSE TO HIM AT THE SAME ALT. THE MTR PLT LATER CALLED ON THE SRQ LOW POS'S UHF FREQ AND HE WAS NOT AWARE THAT HE HAD PASSED CLOSED TO THE SMA. I FEEL THAT I DID NOT RECEIVE A COMPLETE POS BRIEFING WHEN I ASSUMED THE AIRSPACE AS THERE WAS STILL TFC IN MY AIRSPACE THAT I DID NOT HAVE KNOWLEDGE OF.
