Narrative:
I turned left off runway 35 onto taxiway 'U'. Taxied a short distance to ramp/parking area. Turned into parking area next to another aircraft then turned left to taxi perpendicular to parking 'T'. As I turned left to approach parking 'T' I asked my first officer to 'watch my wing'. We rolled a few ft (5-10) when first officer said 'no'. As I stepped on the brakes my right wing hit a light pole approximately 18' inboard of the wingtip. There are no taxi clearance 'yellow' lines in this ramp area. The pilots of this airline have asked but not received an answer to this request. That notwithstanding, this incident is my fault. I should not have attempted to turn left into a parking spot. The right wing is not readily visible from the left seat. By leaning well forward the captain can see the wingtip but the angle is such that depth perception is poor.
