Narrative:
We were cleared from over the hadok intersection to iad via north american route 240. Our original filed route was north american 244. Somehow, both pilots became convinced that they were reading 240 in their flight manuals. Route 244 ended up in the computer. The solution is when checking rtes to work independently. Each pilot should check the route alone, thus avoiding the human tendency to talk the other guy into something.
