Narrative:
I was cleared to land on runway 14 at the srq. As I flew close to the approach end of the runway, my attention was distraction by a helicopter hovering over the runway about where I would be rolling out. Nobody made any transmission regarding the intentions of the helicopter which slowly moved out of its position and I returned my attention to my landing. Rounded out and landed. As I turned off the 'runway' ground controller said, 'you have just landed on runway 14 right'. Puzzled I thought, 'srq has no runway 14R'. Then the horror and embarrassment of it hit me. I had landed on the taxiway! I have never done that before in 49 yrs of flying. So this is what can happen when you allow your attention to be diverted from the primary job at hand. Never again I hope!

Narrative: I WAS CLRED TO LAND ON RWY 14 AT THE SRQ. AS I FLEW CLOSE TO THE APCH END OF THE RWY, MY ATTN WAS DISTR BY A HELI HOVERING OVER THE RWY ABOUT WHERE I WOULD BE ROLLING OUT. NOBODY MADE ANY XMISSION REGARDING THE INTENTIONS OF THE HELI WHICH SLOWLY MOVED OUT OF ITS POS AND I RETURNED MY ATTN TO MY LNDG. ROUNDED OUT AND LANDED. AS I TURNED OFF THE 'RWY' GND CTLR SAID, 'YOU HAVE JUST LANDED ON RWY 14 R'. PUZZLED I THOUGHT, 'SRQ HAS NO RWY 14R'. THEN THE HORROR AND EMBARRASSMENT OF IT HIT ME. I HAD LANDED ON THE TXWY! I HAVE NEVER DONE THAT BEFORE IN 49 YRS OF FLYING. SO THIS IS WHAT CAN HAPPEN WHEN YOU ALLOW YOUR ATTN TO BE DIVERTED FROM THE PRIMARY JOB AT HAND. NEVER AGAIN I HOPE!
