Narrative:

As first officer in light transport, I was on company frequency after leaving the gate to obtain manifest changes. Captain was on dbw ground frequency for clearance. After calculating takeoff weight I indicated same to captain whereupon he requested taxi checklist. Immediately after taxi checks, captain maneuvered the aircraft to position and hold calling for before takeoff checklist. Immediately following accomplishment of same, captain performed normal takeoff. At approximately 400' AGL dbq tower instructed left turn on course and expressed irritation due to no call from us prior to taxi onto active runway. Immediately indicated 'that's ok!' mitigating factors: flight was late and captain was overly authoritative in cockpit.
