Narrative:
Inbound crew experience a lack of green light indication (nose gear) when landing, gear was extended. After problem was fixed, (by contract maintenance) the aircraft was dispatched. Flight crew completed our preflight checks and awaited maintenance paperwork in the cockpit. One of the preflight checks is visually checking that 3 landing gear pins are in the cockpit. This was accomplished as well as an additional check for a gear flag in the nose gear area. No lag was seen but there was no actual check that a pin was not in place since the company procedures treat the 3 pins in the cockpit as a good check. The nose gear would not retract after takeoff. A fourth pin was found in the nose gear after return. Also, an open gripe of 'nose gear pinned as a precaution' was found behind the divider in the log book. The gripe was found when the divider was moved to enter the new gripe.

Title: ACR MLG MADE A TKOF WITH THE NOSE GEAR PIN STILL INSTALLED.
Narrative: INBND CREW EXPERIENCE A LACK OF GREEN LIGHT INDICATION (NOSE GEAR) WHEN LNDG, GEAR WAS EXTENDED. AFTER PROB WAS FIXED, (BY CONTRACT MAINT) THE ACFT WAS DISPATCHED. FLC COMPLETED OUR PREFLT CHKS AND AWAITED MAINT PAPERWORK IN THE COCKPIT. ONE OF THE PREFLT CHKS IS VISUALLY CHKING THAT 3 LNDG GEAR PINS ARE IN THE COCKPIT. THIS WAS ACCOMPLISHED AS WELL AS AN ADDITIONAL CHK FOR A GEAR FLAG IN THE NOSE GEAR AREA. NO LAG WAS SEEN BUT THERE WAS NO ACTUAL CHK THAT A PIN WAS NOT IN PLACE SINCE THE COMPANY PROCS TREAT THE 3 PINS IN THE COCKPIT AS A GOOD CHK. THE NOSE GEAR WOULD NOT RETRACT AFTER TKOF.
