Narrative:
As I stated this is not a case of a one man sector versus a two man sector. It appears to me that the situations I have encountered this summer season have been a lack of caring. Last night I worked sardi sector by myself which was all right, after two hours on position with thunderstorms in the area and a full bay of traffic building I asked for 20 mi in trail on any traffic entering my sector. This was because I was getting tired and I was by myself. The reaction I got was a blank stare. I did get relieved after making this request. After coming back from break I was assigned providence sector, another one man sector. At this point in time I did not know that the sardi/hampton sectors were not functioning. I soon found out when airplanes were well within my sector west/O communication changes. It only got worse. I declared an emergency for 2 aircraft because of the situation they were put in. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information. Reporter stated that to his knowledge there was no operational deviation's or operational error's resulting from the WX activity in this report. Reporter stated he sent the report in out of frustration with one man position staffing. Primary reason is facility staffing. The supervisor has told the reporter if you need help (a D controller) let me know. Reporter feels the position should be staffed at all times. Reporter said the facility manager had mandated the D position be open more. The supervisor's are staffing the position during light traffic and combining the position when it is busy. Reporter had been medically disqualified for erratic behavior.

Title: ARTCC COMBINED SECTOR OPERATION.
Narrative: AS I STATED THIS IS NOT A CASE OF A ONE MAN SECTOR VERSUS A TWO MAN SECTOR. IT APPEARS TO ME THAT THE SITUATIONS I HAVE ENCOUNTERED THIS SUMMER SEASON HAVE BEEN A LACK OF CARING. LAST NIGHT I WORKED SARDI SECTOR BY MYSELF WHICH WAS ALL RIGHT, AFTER TWO HRS ON POS WITH TSTMS IN THE AREA AND A FULL BAY OF TFC BUILDING I ASKED FOR 20 MI IN TRAIL ON ANY TFC ENTERING MY SECTOR. I SOON FOUND OUT WHEN AIRPLANES WERE WELL WITHIN MY SECTOR W/O COM CHANGES. IT ONLY GOT WORSE. I DECLARED AN EMER FOR 2 ACFT BECAUSE OF THE SITUATION THEY WERE PUT IN. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO. RPTR STATED THAT TO HIS KNOWLEDGE THERE WAS NO OPDEV'S OR OPERROR'S RESULTING FROM THE WX ACTIVITY IN THIS RPT. RPTR STATED HE SENT THE RPT IN OUT OF FRUSTRATION WITH ONE MAN POS STAFFING. PRIMARY REASON IS FAC STAFFING. THE SUPVR HAS TOLD THE RPTR IF YOU NEED HELP (A D CTLR) LET ME KNOW. RPTR FEELS THE POS SHOULD BE STAFFED AT ALL TIMES. RPTR SAID THE FAC MGR HAD MANDATED THE D POS BE OPEN MORE. THE SUPVR'S ARE STAFFING THE POS DURING LIGHT TFC AND COMBINING THE POS WHEN IT IS BUSY. RPTR HAD BEEN MEDICALLY DISQUALIFIED FOR ERRATIC BEHAVIOR.
