Narrative:

Mia does not appear to have read the SOP for marshaling aircraft. It's pretty straightforward and doesn't take long. We were marshaled in off either of the two lines and no real signal was given to move forward. [The gate] has two lines; and ambiguity is easy when the marshaller stands by neither. We are close to a retaining wall there; and I really didn't get [the] impression that the marshaller was trained properly. This is the rule; not the exception; when I go to mia. Read the SOP. Know that it may be different than others and use it.
