Narrative:
En route to green bay from madison, wi. We had just departed madison and were cleared to 17000'. There were a few broken clouds in the area, and in that we were from this area and knew the area, and it was such a short flight, we asked for 11000'. After a few short mins we cleared the clouds; reported to approach we had the airport in sight. He cleared us to 2500' and cleared to land. We both commented on how high we were and how quickly we had gotten there, we both had the green bay VOR on with the DME working properly. I called for slats and flaps accordingly. We were still high so we requested runway 24. I called for gear down and landing check. While turning final for the runway at 2100' we both commented 'this isn't right.' at which time green bay approach called saying 'pull up, you're looking at appleton', at which time we initiated a missed approach continued to green bay. Supplemental information from acn 156847. I have gone over that night many times and cannot give you a good reason why it happened. We both are very familiar with the grb area and should know better. Maybe coupled with confidence of knowing the area and flying a new route from msn-grb from a different angle had the most to do with it.

Title: WRONG ARPT APCH FOR ACR MLG.
Narrative: ENRTE TO GREEN BAY FROM MADISON, WI. WE HAD JUST DEPARTED MADISON AND WERE CLRED TO 17000'. THERE WERE A FEW BROKEN CLOUDS IN THE AREA, AND IN THAT WE WERE FROM THIS AREA AND KNEW THE AREA, AND IT WAS SUCH A SHORT FLT, WE ASKED FOR 11000'. AFTER A FEW SHORT MINS WE CLRED THE CLOUDS; RPTED TO APCH WE HAD THE ARPT IN SIGHT. HE CLRED US TO 2500' AND CLRED TO LAND. WE BOTH COMMENTED ON HOW HIGH WE WERE AND HOW QUICKLY WE HAD GOTTEN THERE, WE BOTH HAD THE GREEN BAY VOR ON WITH THE DME WORKING PROPERLY. I CALLED FOR SLATS AND FLAPS ACCORDINGLY. WE WERE STILL HIGH SO WE REQUESTED RWY 24. I CALLED FOR GEAR DOWN AND LNDG CHK. WHILE TURNING FINAL FOR THE RWY AT 2100' WE BOTH COMMENTED 'THIS ISN'T RIGHT.' AT WHICH TIME GREEN BAY APCH CALLED SAYING 'PULL UP, YOU'RE LOOKING AT APPLETON', AT WHICH TIME WE INITIATED A MISSED APCH CONTINUED TO GREEN BAY. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 156847. I HAVE GONE OVER THAT NIGHT MANY TIMES AND CANNOT GIVE YOU A GOOD REASON WHY IT HAPPENED. WE BOTH ARE VERY FAMILIAR WITH THE GRB AREA AND SHOULD KNOW BETTER. MAYBE COUPLED WITH CONFIDENCE OF KNOWING THE AREA AND FLYING A NEW RTE FROM MSN-GRB FROM A DIFFERENT ANGLE HAD THE MOST TO DO WITH IT.
