Narrative:
The flight was to be from corona to carson city, nv. The flight plan called for us to skirt around edwards AFB and the restr areas. The person flying the right side was a student pilot. After crossing gorman VOR and asking edwards center for flight following and being politely refused, we were to fly from gorman VOR and pick-up bishop VOR. The student pilot dialed in the wrong VOR and before I noticed the situation we were lost over the restr areas. We were escorted out of the area by fgt Y. After we had landed we were asked for, and gave our names and addresses. When we were picked up I still had over 2 hours of usable fuel so I was not in fear of crashing. Also, I knew I was over the restr area and was trying to figure out the best way out. This experience was very humbling. From now on I will check and rechk all frequencys and navaids along with map chkpoints.
