Narrative:
Was instructed to cross bronc intersection at 11000' and 250 KTS. Prior to bronc, I asked if runway 22 right or left was available since ILS DME 27 was in use. During conversation with controller regarding use of 22, he instructed us to turn left 090 degree at revere intersection. Looking down on approach plate I read 29 above the victor arwy sign which normally would indicate DME to fix. All other fixs are designated on plate are designated as such. We turned left at 29 DME off of gdm believing we were at that fix since the chart scale seemed inadequate. Also during conversation with controller who was trying to allow us to land on runway 22L or right. We believed we were correct. Shortly after, he corrected us on heading and intersection (information misinterpreted on approach legend). He indicated no problem and not to worry? Low traffic volume at that time and super visibility at bos that day no near miss. Approach executed with no problem normal operations.

Title: ACR MLG TRACK HEADING DEVIATION FLYING A STAR INTO BOS.
Narrative: WAS INSTRUCTED TO CROSS BRONC INTXN AT 11000' AND 250 KTS. PRIOR TO BRONC, I ASKED IF RWY 22 R OR L WAS AVAILABLE SINCE ILS DME 27 WAS IN USE. DURING CONVERSATION WITH CTLR REGARDING USE OF 22, HE INSTRUCTED US TO TURN L 090 DEG AT REVERE INTXN. LOOKING DOWN ON APCH PLATE I READ 29 ABOVE THE VICTOR ARWY SIGN WHICH NORMALLY WOULD INDICATE DME TO FIX. ALL OTHER FIXS ARE DESIGNATED ON PLATE ARE DESIGNATED AS SUCH. WE TURNED L AT 29 DME OFF OF GDM BELIEVING WE WERE AT THAT FIX SINCE THE CHART SCALE SEEMED INADEQUATE. ALSO DURING CONVERSATION WITH CTLR WHO WAS TRYING TO ALLOW US TO LAND ON RWY 22L OR R. WE BELIEVED WE WERE CORRECT. SHORTLY AFTER, HE CORRECTED US ON HDG AND INTXN (INFO MISINTERPRETED ON APCH LEGEND). HE INDICATED NO PROB AND NOT TO WORRY? LOW TFC VOLUME AT THAT TIME AND SUPER VISIBILITY AT BOS THAT DAY NO NEAR MISS. APCH EXECUTED WITH NO PROB NORMAL OPS.
