Narrative:
Climbing out of las asked for and received a left turn to 090 degrees to intercept the kaslo 2 arrival into phx. The captain was off the radio giving a public address to the passenger on the grand canyon. I was trying to intercept the 136 degree right (don't have plate with me, radial maybe slightly different than I quote them from memory) off of peach springs VOR. The peach springs DME kept coming in and out. I thought I would intercept that radial and track inbound to the phx 312 degree right off the salt river VOR. I had flown this departure once before and the ZLA controller had turned us to intercept the salt river radial, so I didn't notice--especially with intermittent DME off of peach springs VOR--that I should have intercept the boulder city VOR 108 degree right. ZLA turned us to intercept and turned our company away. We both leveled off (we stopped at FL250). I believe he stopped the other company flight at FL260. We never saw company and he didn't report seeing us. My wife had just been deployed in support of operation desert shield. Was tired from dropping off our baby at grandma's. Captain was having some trouble with his ears and giving a passenger announcement.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACR MLG TRACK HEADING DEVIATION ON RADAR VECTOR TO INTERCEPT STAR INTO PHX.
Narrative: CLBING OUT OF LAS ASKED FOR AND RECEIVED A LEFT TURN TO 090 DEGS TO INTERCEPT THE KASLO 2 ARR INTO PHX. THE CAPT WAS OFF THE RADIO GIVING A PUBLIC ADDRESS TO THE PAX ON THE GRAND CANYON. I WAS TRYING TO INTERCEPT THE 136 DEG R (DON'T HAVE PLATE WITH ME, RADIAL MAYBE SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT THAN I QUOTE THEM FROM MEMORY) OFF OF PEACH SPRINGS VOR. THE PEACH SPRINGS DME KEPT COMING IN AND OUT. I THOUGHT I WOULD INTERCEPT THAT RADIAL AND TRACK INBND TO THE PHX 312 DEG R OFF THE SALT RIVER VOR. I HAD FLOWN THIS DEP ONCE BEFORE AND THE ZLA CTLR HAD TURNED US TO INTERCEPT THE SALT RIVER RADIAL, SO I DIDN'T NOTICE--ESPECIALLY WITH INTERMITTENT DME OFF OF PEACH SPRINGS VOR--THAT I SHOULD HAVE INTERCEPT THE BOULDER CITY VOR 108 DEG R. ZLA TURNED US TO INTERCEPT AND TURNED OUR COMPANY AWAY. WE BOTH LEVELED OFF (WE STOPPED AT FL250). I BELIEVE HE STOPPED THE OTHER COMPANY FLT AT FL260. WE NEVER SAW COMPANY AND HE DIDN'T RPT SEEING US. MY WIFE HAD JUST BEEN DEPLOYED IN SUPPORT OF OPERATION DESERT SHIELD. WAS TIRED FROM DROPPING OFF OUR BABY AT GRANDMA'S. CAPT WAS HAVING SOME TROUBLE WITH HIS EARS AND GIVING A PAX ANNOUNCEMENT.
