Narrative:
Lost tread from #3 main tire on takeoff. No indication of tire failure in cockpit or cabin (had a dead heading captain and first officer sitting directly over wing in cabin). As aircraft lifted off, right main indicator went unsafe and green indicators for the other gear went out. All engine INS remained steady and normal. No airframe vibration or any other nose. Misdiagnosed problem as a gear indication problem. No calls from other sources advising of a failure. Was selcaled by the company an hour after takeoff to advise that phl tower had found rubber on the runway and that it might have been my aircraft. Had advised phl departure when initially contacted them that we would operate at reduced airspeed while we sorted out gear indication problem. Also talked to company maintenance about the problem before continuing on to mia. Had expected to have to visually verify gear down in mia (company major maintenance base). When advised of rubber on runway, knew what the problem was. Didn't change decision to inspect gear through the floor view port, but now knew why. Tire tread (recap) tore up trailing edge of right flap and dented engine nacelle. Small chunk went through engine. Treat al gear/airframe problems during takeoff phase as tire failures.

Title: ACR MLG LOST A TIRE TREAD DURING TKOF FROM PHL, CONTINUED TO MIA.
Narrative: LOST TREAD FROM #3 MAIN TIRE ON TKOF. NO INDICATION OF TIRE FAILURE IN COCKPIT OR CABIN (HAD A DEAD HDG CAPT AND F/O SITTING DIRECTLY OVER WING IN CABIN). AS ACFT LIFTED OFF, RIGHT MAIN INDICATOR WENT UNSAFE AND GREEN INDICATORS FOR THE OTHER GEAR WENT OUT. ALL ENG INS REMAINED STEADY AND NORMAL. NO AIRFRAME VIBRATION OR ANY OTHER NOSE. MISDIAGNOSED PROB AS A GEAR INDICATION PROB. NO CALLS FROM OTHER SOURCES ADVISING OF A FAILURE. WAS SELCALED BY THE COMPANY AN HR AFTER TKOF TO ADVISE THAT PHL TWR HAD FOUND RUBBER ON THE RWY AND THAT IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN MY ACFT. HAD ADVISED PHL DEP WHEN INITIALLY CONTACTED THEM THAT WE WOULD OPERATE AT REDUCED AIRSPD WHILE WE SORTED OUT GEAR INDICATION PROB. ALSO TALKED TO COMPANY MAINT ABOUT THE PROB BEFORE CONTINUING ON TO MIA. HAD EXPECTED TO HAVE TO VISUALLY VERIFY GEAR DOWN IN MIA (COMPANY MAJOR MAINT BASE). WHEN ADVISED OF RUBBER ON RWY, KNEW WHAT THE PROB WAS. DIDN'T CHANGE DECISION TO INSPECT GEAR THROUGH THE FLOOR VIEW PORT, BUT NOW KNEW WHY. TIRE TREAD (RECAP) TORE UP TRAILING EDGE OF RIGHT FLAP AND DENTED ENG NACELLE. SMALL CHUNK WENT THROUGH ENG. TREAT AL GEAR/AIRFRAME PROBS DURING TKOF PHASE AS TIRE FAILURES.
