Narrative:
I was the first officer on flight en route to dtw from msp. We had received from center a clearance to descend from FL410 to cross 50 mi west of mkg at FL330. We made that restriction. We made that descent uneventfully. We maintained FL330 for quite a while, and when we passed the top of descent point on our computer generated map, we queried center (I think it was chicago) for a lower altitude. Center then clrd us to cross polar intersection at 12000' and 250 KTS, and added 'your clearance was to cross 40 east of muskegon at FL240.' however, as the PF, I did not recall hearing that clearance. The captain who was handling the radios DOD not recall either receiving or acknowledging that clearance. Both of us had our headsets on for the whole duration of the flight. Although the descent to polar was rushed due to the rapid descent, we managed to cross polar at 260 KTS at 12000'. Also, we recall another aircraft mentioning to detroit approach that they never received their clearance to slow to 250 KTS.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FLT CREW OF ACFT WITH PROGRAMMED POINT OF DESCENT QUERRIED CENTER WHEN PAST DESCENT POINT. CTLR ADVISED THEY HAD BEEN CLEARED TO CROSS 50 MI EAST OF MKG AT FL240. NEITHER FLT CREW MEMBER RECALLED SUCH A CLRNC.
Narrative: I WAS THE F/O ON FLT ENRTE TO DTW FROM MSP. WE HAD RECEIVED FROM CTR A CLRNC TO DSND FROM FL410 TO CROSS 50 MI W OF MKG AT FL330. WE MADE THAT RESTRICTION. WE MADE THAT DSNT UNEVENTFULLY. WE MAINTAINED FL330 FOR QUITE A WHILE, AND WHEN WE PASSED THE TOP OF DSNT POINT ON OUR COMPUTER GENERATED MAP, WE QUERIED CTR (I THINK IT WAS CHICAGO) FOR A LOWER ALT. CTR THEN CLRD US TO CROSS POLAR INTXN AT 12000' AND 250 KTS, AND ADDED 'YOUR CLRNC WAS TO CROSS 40 E OF MUSKEGON AT FL240.' HOWEVER, AS THE PF, I DID NOT RECALL HEARING THAT CLRNC. THE CAPT WHO WAS HANDLING THE RADIOS DOD NOT RECALL EITHER RECEIVING OR ACKNOWLEDGING THAT CLRNC. BOTH OF US HAD OUR HEADSETS ON FOR THE WHOLE DURATION OF THE FLT. ALTHOUGH THE DSNT TO POLAR WAS RUSHED DUE TO THE RAPID DSNT, WE MANAGED TO CROSS POLAR AT 260 KTS AT 12000'. ALSO, WE RECALL ANOTHER ACFT MENTIONING TO DETROIT APCH THAT THEY NEVER RECEIVED THEIR CLRNC TO SLOW TO 250 KTS.
