Narrative:
On turning final to runway 24L at lax in a VMC visibility approach in early morning clear conditions, overshot final to north complex (runways 24L/right) and went south approaching the final to runway 25R at lax. Commuter traffic and conflicting air carrier on final to runway 25L had been pointed out by the approach controller and a second request for the same traffic advisory was requested by my aircraft because of some slight confusion on the commuter flight intentions (to cross our final to and on runway 24L). We were high on right base turning inbound to final continuing to get the aircraft configured for landing when all 3 pilots felt the popping ear feeling of the cabin depressurizing (at about 4000-3000'). The resultant quick discussion of that and the shallowing out of the descent (and leveling of the wings) got us over into the final area for runways 25R/left. We realized what was going on about the time the tower called and we came above and to the north of an medium large transport (I think). We got back over to final for runway 24R and continued normally.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FLT CREW OF WDB MAKING INFAMOUS STADIUM VISUAL APCH HAD DISTR IN FINAL TURN, OVERSHOT TURN PASSING OVER TRAFFIC FOR RWY 25R.
Narrative: ON TURNING FINAL TO RWY 24L AT LAX IN A VMC VIS APCH IN EARLY MORNING CLR CONDITIONS, OVERSHOT FINAL TO N COMPLEX (RWYS 24L/R) AND WENT S APCHING THE FINAL TO RWY 25R AT LAX. COMMUTER TFC AND CONFLICTING AIR CARRIER ON FINAL TO RWY 25L HAD BEEN POINTED OUT BY THE APCH CTLR AND A SEC REQUEST FOR THE SAME TFC ADVISORY WAS REQUESTED BY MY ACFT BECAUSE OF SOME SLIGHT CONFUSION ON THE COMMUTER FLT INTENTIONS (TO CROSS OUR FINAL TO AND ON RWY 24L). WE WERE HIGH ON R BASE TURNING INBND TO FINAL CONTINUING TO GET THE ACFT CONFIGURED FOR LNDG WHEN ALL 3 PLTS FELT THE POPPING EAR FEELING OF THE CABIN DEPRESSURIZING (AT ABOUT 4000-3000'). THE RESULTANT QUICK DISCUSSION OF THAT AND THE SHALLOWING OUT OF THE DSNT (AND LEVELING OF THE WINGS) GOT US OVER INTO THE FINAL AREA FOR RWYS 25R/L. WE REALIZED WHAT WAS GOING ON ABOUT THE TIME THE TWR CALLED AND WE CAME ABOVE AND TO THE N OF AN MLG (I THINK). WE GOT BACK OVER TO FINAL FOR RWY 24R AND CONTINUED NORMALLY.
