Narrative:
Cleared to FL260 in moderate turbulence. At FL260 leveled off with autoplt. We were looking for traffic reported by ATC at FL270 off the left wing. TCAS gave us a traffic alert and we directed our attention to the TCAS and outside to find the traffic. The autoplt could not hold the altitude because of the turbulence and at 26300' the altitude alerter went off. The autoplt was disconnected and at 26400' was started back down to 26000'. This occurred on 1/sat/91 with ZTL frequency 124.37. We were instructed to call center via landline.
