Narrative:

Over the threshold I reduced the speed to 60 KTS and touched down about 1/3 down the runway. I brought the flaps up immediately, started braking--gently at first, then more forcefully. Then, as the end of the runway approached, real hard. The aircraft ran off in the overrun. I started a left turn, but the aircraft ran off in the overrun. I started a left turn, but the drop off came before the turn was completed and the aircraft partially slid down with the left wing scraping the edge of the road. No injuries to pilot or passenger. Damage: a crumpled right wing tip and right elevator. If I had stood on the brakes from the moment of T/D I would not have finished over the drop-off. However, with the aircraft slowed down and 2000' of runway ahead, I could not see the need to risk burning through the tires. I intend to review lndgs with emphasis on short field lndgs with emphasis on short field lndgs with an instrument as soon as my aircraft is repaired. Overrun at shannon airport is very short. Wind shifted from left crosswind to quartering tailwind during landing. Airport advisory shifted to runway 23 after my landing accident.

Title: GA SMA RWY EXCURSION AT EZF.

Narrative: OVER THE THRESHOLD I REDUCED THE SPD TO 60 KTS AND TOUCHED DOWN ABOUT 1/3 DOWN THE RWY. I BROUGHT THE FLAPS UP IMMEDIATELY, STARTED BRAKING--GENTLY AT FIRST, THEN MORE FORCEFULLY. THEN, AS THE END OF THE RWY APCHED, REAL HARD. THE ACFT RAN OFF IN THE OVERRUN. I STARTED A LEFT TURN, BUT THE ACFT RAN OFF IN THE OVERRUN. I STARTED A LEFT TURN, BUT THE DROP OFF CAME BEFORE THE TURN WAS COMPLETED AND THE ACFT PARTIALLY SLID DOWN WITH THE LEFT WING SCRAPING THE EDGE OF THE ROAD. NO INJURIES TO PLT OR PAX. DAMAGE: A CRUMPLED RIGHT WING TIP AND RIGHT ELEVATOR. IF I HAD STOOD ON THE BRAKES FROM THE MOMENT OF T/D I WOULD NOT HAVE FINISHED OVER THE DROP-OFF. HOWEVER, WITH THE ACFT SLOWED DOWN AND 2000' OF RWY AHEAD, I COULD NOT SEE THE NEED TO RISK BURNING THROUGH THE TIRES. I INTEND TO REVIEW LNDGS WITH EMPHASIS ON SHORT FIELD LNDGS WITH EMPHASIS ON SHORT FIELD LNDGS WITH AN INSTR AS SOON AS MY ACFT IS REPAIRED. OVERRUN AT SHANNON ARPT IS VERY SHORT. WIND SHIFTED FROM LEFT XWIND TO QUARTERING TAILWIND DURING LNDG. ARPT ADVISORY SHIFTED TO RWY 23 AFTER MY LNDG ACCIDENT.
