Narrative:
On application of takeoff power, takeoff warning horn sounded. Checked position of flaps, led's, stabilizer and speed brake. Noticed no irregularities. Aborted takeoff. No airspeed had registered. Taxied clear of runway. Cycled previously mentioned items. Checked takeoff warning horn with power application. No horn. Taxi back and commenced normal uneventful takeoff. After review of situation we (both pilots) were unsure of flaps being 1 or 5 degrees. The checklist is generic for both medium large transport type 'a' and type 'B' aircraft. Type 'a' aircraft require minimum of 1 degree flaps. Type 'B' requires 5 degrees minimum for takeoff. Checklist relies on memory as to aircraft type 'a' or 'B' for minimum flap setting.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACR MLG GOT A TKOF WARNING HORN AS THRUST LEVERS WERE ADVANCED. AFTER ABORT THE FLT CREW RECYCLED THE ITEMS COVERED BY THE WARNING HORN TAXIED BACK AND MADE A NORMAL TKOF. REPORTER NOT SURE IF 1 DEGREE OF FLAP HAD BEEN SET OF 5 DEGREES AS REQUIRED.
Narrative: ON APPLICATION OF TKOF PWR, TKOF WARNING HORN SOUNDED. CHKED POS OF FLAPS, LED'S, STABILIZER AND SPD BRAKE. NOTICED NO IRREGULARITIES. ABORTED TKOF. NO AIRSPD HAD REGISTERED. TAXIED CLR OF RWY. CYCLED PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED ITEMS. CHKED TKOF WARNING HORN WITH PWR APPLICATION. NO HORN. TAXI BACK AND COMMENCED NORMAL UNEVENTFUL TKOF. AFTER REVIEW OF SITUATION WE (BOTH PLTS) WERE UNSURE OF FLAPS BEING 1 OR 5 DEGS. THE CHKLIST IS GENERIC FOR BOTH MLG TYPE 'A' AND TYPE 'B' ACFT. TYPE 'A' ACFT REQUIRE MINIMUM OF 1 DEG FLAPS. TYPE 'B' REQUIRES 5 DEGS MINIMUM FOR TKOF. CHKLIST RELIES ON MEMORY AS TO ACFT TYPE 'A' OR 'B' FOR MINIMUM FLAP SETTING.
