Narrative:
Scheduled air carrier flight, msy-iah, proceeded normally including checklists and briefings until throttles advanced for takeoff, whereupon the takeoff warning horn sounded. Takeoff was discontinued, tower notified, and runway cleared at first turnoff. It was quickly discovered that the spoiler handle was up and back about 1/2 inch, and the same was returned to the retract detent. Spoiler deployed light was not illuminated because handle was not back far enough to deploy the spoilers. First officer noted spoilers were retracted during preflight inspection. Taxi and before takeoff checklists were reviewed and the flight was completed normally. We surmised later that the spoiler automatic-retract feature had not functioned fully on the previous landing and that the proximity of the handle to the retract detent had gone unnoticed. Maintenance was notified.

Title: ACR MLG TKOF ABORT WHEN TKOF WARNING HORN SOUNDED AS PWR WAS ADVANCED.
Narrative: SCHEDULED ACR FLT, MSY-IAH, PROCEEDED NORMALLY INCLUDING CHKLISTS AND BRIEFINGS UNTIL THROTTLES ADVANCED FOR TKOF, WHEREUPON THE TKOF WARNING HORN SOUNDED. TKOF WAS DISCONTINUED, TWR NOTIFIED, AND RWY CLRED AT FIRST TURNOFF. FO NOTED SPOILERS WERE RETRACTED DURING PREFLT INSPECTION. TAXI AND BEFORE TKOF CHKLISTS WERE REVIEWED AND THE FLT WAS COMPLETED NORMALLY. WE SURMISED LATER THAT THE SPOILER AUTO-RETRACT FEATURE HAD NOT FUNCTIONED FULLY ON THE PREVIOUS LNDG AND THAT THE PROX OF THE HANDLE TO THE RETRACT DETENT HAD GONE UNNOTICED. MAINT WAS NOTIFIED.
