Narrative:
We were on a descent into sfo. We had just received a vector off the big sur profile descent, (020 heading descending to 6000'). Both the captain and I heads were down setting our heading bugs. I looked up and just below my window was an small aircraft. I pulled back on the yoke and he went under us. Nobody else saw him but me. After landing I got on the phone to the approach control and talked to the supervisor. He informed me that their radar recording stopped at 100' between the two planes. The small aircraft was climbing and we were descending. Approach did tell us of traffic at 2:00 and we saw it. The only problem is that we saw wrong traffic! What we did see was an airliner on approach to runway 28. The approach control did not tell us it was a small airplane, and did not give us a DME to the aircraft. So we did see traffic at 2:00 but it was the wrong one.

Title: CLOSE PROX ACR-MLG GA-SMA SW OF SFO.
Narrative: WE WERE ON A DSNT INTO SFO. WE HAD JUST RECEIVED A VECTOR OFF THE BIG SUR PROFILE DSNT, (020 HDG DSNDING TO 6000'). BOTH THE CAPT AND I HEADS WERE DOWN SETTING OUR HDG BUGS. I LOOKED UP AND JUST BELOW MY WINDOW WAS AN SMA. I PULLED BACK ON THE YOKE AND HE WENT UNDER US. NOBODY ELSE SAW HIM BUT ME. AFTER LNDG I GOT ON THE PHONE TO THE APCH CTL AND TALKED TO THE SUPVR. HE INFORMED ME THAT THEIR RADAR RECORDING STOPPED AT 100' BTWN THE TWO PLANES. THE SMA WAS CLBING AND WE WERE DSNDING. APCH DID TELL US OF TFC AT 2:00 AND WE SAW IT. THE ONLY PROB IS THAT WE SAW WRONG TFC! WHAT WE DID SEE WAS AN AIRLINER ON APCH TO RWY 28. THE APCH CTL DID NOT TELL US IT WAS A SMALL AIRPLANE, AND DID NOT GIVE US A DME TO THE ACFT. SO WE DID SEE TFC AT 2:00 BUT IT WAS THE WRONG ONE.
