Narrative:
We were cleared for a visibility to follow a heavy air carrier widebody transport Y 16 mi out. Then we were told to reduce to final approach speed behind the heavy Y. An air carrier medium large transport Z, was cleared for a visibility to runway 26R and reported us in sight. About over petis he passed us up on the right side. We had no idea he was going to pass us. The first indication we had was when our cockpit became illuminated from his landing lights. The first time I saw him, he appeared to be in a right bank, close north, on our right side. He then did a left turn to line up on final. There is no reason to compress traffic like this. I feel as though both the controller and medium large transport Z pilot were negligent.
