Narrative:

After taking off runway 16R at slc and north of the airport heading east level at 16000', a traffic advisory was called out by TCAS ii at 9 O'clock and closing fast. It was an medium large transport climbing to 15000'. An RA was announced by TCAS ii and was resolved by following a climb command to 16280'. We then descended back to 16000'. ZLC advised the medium large transport did not exceed 15000' and that we were never shown off altitude. The medium large transport appeared to level off suddenly (from a high rate of climb) at 15000'. The medium large transport passed from left to right well in front of us.
