Narrative:
Flight en route from pwm to lga. Level at FL260 talking to ZBW on 128.32. Center reported traffic at 10 O'clock climbing to FL250. At first we had no visibility contact but did have a target on TCAS at approximately the position reported. After the traffic broke out on top, we gained visibility contact. TCAS reported, 'traffic, traffic,' in a TA alert and displayed the contact on my ivsi. The contact showed an 1100' sep and in a climb. The traffic appeared to continue to climb and when sep got less than 1000' I noted to the captain that information and TCAS gave an RA to 'climb.' TCAS showed the need to climb in excess of 2000 FPM. With the captain's concurrence, I disconnected the autoplt and started a 2000 FPM climb. The traffic appeared to level at approximately 25500' and start down. We climbed to approximately FL267 when TCAS reported, 'clear of conflict.' we corrected to FL260 and notified center. In my opinion, TCAS worked as advertised.

Title: ACR LGT ALT DEVIATION EXCURSION FROM CLRNC ALT IN RESPONSE TO TCASII RA.
Narrative: FLT ENRTE FROM PWM TO LGA. LEVEL AT FL260 TALKING TO ZBW ON 128.32. CENTER RPTED TFC AT 10 O'CLOCK CLBING TO FL250. AT FIRST WE HAD NO VIS CONTACT BUT DID HAVE A TARGET ON TCAS AT APPROX THE POS RPTED. AFTER THE TFC BROKE OUT ON TOP, WE GAINED VIS CONTACT. TCAS RPTED, 'TFC, TFC,' IN A TA ALERT AND DISPLAYED THE CONTACT ON MY IVSI. THE CONTACT SHOWED AN 1100' SEP AND IN A CLB. THE TFC APPEARED TO CONTINUE TO CLB AND WHEN SEP GOT LESS THAN 1000' I NOTED TO THE CAPT THAT INFO AND TCAS GAVE AN RA TO 'CLB.' TCAS SHOWED THE NEED TO CLB IN EXCESS OF 2000 FPM. WITH THE CAPT'S CONCURRENCE, I DISCONNECTED THE AUTOPLT AND STARTED A 2000 FPM CLB. THE TFC APPEARED TO LEVEL AT APPROX 25500' AND START DOWN. WE CLBED TO APPROX FL267 WHEN TCAS RPTED, 'CLR OF CONFLICT.' WE CORRECTED TO FL260 AND NOTIFIED CENTER. IN MY OPINION, TCAS WORKED AS ADVERTISED.
