Narrative:
After passing gla westbound to bos, I loaded additional waypoints into the INS (na track charlie). After this we were rerouted onto track bravo, 1 degree (60 mi) north. Although waypoint #5 (59N/50W) had been entered correctly (according to our rerte), as we approached waypoint #4 (61N 40W) I changed waypoint #5 to the original flight plan (58N 50W) because I had not completely blocked it out on our computer printout. The first officer and second officer, since they had already checked waypoint #5, started checking the newly entered waypoints with #6. After passing waypoint #4 by 10 mins, our position x-chk showed us south of course heading toward 58N 50W instead of 59N 50W. I immediately corrected to our filed course.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACR PIC MISPROGRAMS INSTRUMENTS IN OCEANIC AIRSPACE AND CREATES A HEADING TRACK DEVIATION. PROBABLY 10 PT 5 MILES SOUTH OF COURSE, 4 MILES OVER ALLOWED.
Narrative: AFTER PASSING GLA WBND TO BOS, I LOADED ADDITIONAL WAYPOINTS INTO THE INS (NA TRACK CHARLIE). AFTER THIS WE WERE REROUTED ONTO TRACK BRAVO, 1 DEG (60 MI) N. ALTHOUGH WAYPOINT #5 (59N/50W) HAD BEEN ENTERED CORRECTLY (ACCORDING TO OUR RERTE), AS WE APCHED WAYPOINT #4 (61N 40W) I CHANGED WAYPOINT #5 TO THE ORIGINAL FLT PLAN (58N 50W) BECAUSE I HAD NOT COMPLETELY BLOCKED IT OUT ON OUR COMPUTER PRINTOUT. THE F/O AND S/O, SINCE THEY HAD ALREADY CHKED WAYPOINT #5, STARTED CHKING THE NEWLY ENTERED WAYPOINTS WITH #6. AFTER PASSING WAYPOINT #4 BY 10 MINS, OUR POS X-CHK SHOWED US S OF COURSE HDG TOWARD 58N 50W INSTEAD OF 59N 50W. I IMMEDIATELY CORRECTED TO OUR FILED COURSE.
