Narrative:
Captain and I began a non revenue trip from hfd to frg, there were no passenger on board. I was acting copilot during this leg. The WX briefing from bridgeport FSS warned of level 2 and 3 thunderstorms associated with our route. We departed from hfd under VFR conditions. Upon reaching our cruising altitude the captain listened to hvn ATIS, which was reporting a thundershower on the field, our WX radar confirmed this report. Our initial navigation was hfd LORAN direct frg; however, due to the WX condition, we deviated to a point just east of madison VOR in order to circumnav the line of thunderstorms. After clearing the thunderstorm east of hvn, it was necessary to continue south to circumnav another cell over long island sound, southeast of hvn. 30-35 NM northeast of frg, we received the frg ATIS which stated that frg was IFR with 2 mi visibility and a thundershower overhead. We contacted frg tower and confirmed the ATIS report. The captain requested a SVFR clearance into frg. This request was granted into the frg control zone. Tower advised an approximately 10 min delay and asked for our present position. We advised frg tower that we were 28 NM northeast of frg, and would hold over dpk VOR at 1700' and await the SVFR clearance. 7 mi northeast of dpk VOR, frg tower advised us that we were cleared into the frg control zone at or below 1500' SVFR. We proceeded inbound crossing directly over frg at 800'. We entered a right downwind for runway 19 and were cleared to land by frg tower. Supplemental information from acn 180374: upon clearing the runway, the tower advised that the long island approach had shown up entering the northwest edge of the arsa. I responded by explaining our deviation from course for WX avoidance and that it was possible that I had entered the arsa at some position of the flight while in radio contact with frg tower before descending to 1500'. After landing I contacted the supervisor on duty in the long island radar facility. He told me that he just wanted to let me know that his radar had shown the aircraft in the arsa for a short period and that no radio contact was established with the controllers. I explained the reason for the deviation and that I was in contact wit the frg tower at the time.

Title: ATX SMT FLT CREW PENETRATES LONG ISLAND ARSA WHILE IN COM WITH FRG TWR.
Narrative: CAPT AND I BEGAN A NON REVENUE TRIP FROM HFD TO FRG, THERE WERE NO PAX ON BOARD. I WAS ACTING COPLT DURING THIS LEG. THE WX BRIEFING FROM BRIDGEPORT FSS WARNED OF LEVEL 2 AND 3 TSTMS ASSOCIATED WITH OUR RTE. WE DEPARTED FROM HFD UNDER VFR CONDITIONS. UPON REACHING OUR CRUISING ALT THE CAPT LISTENED TO HVN ATIS, WHICH WAS RPTING A THUNDERSHOWER ON THE FIELD, OUR WX RADAR CONFIRMED THIS RPT. OUR INITIAL NAV WAS HFD LORAN DIRECT FRG; HOWEVER, DUE TO THE WX CONDITION, WE DEVIATED TO A POINT JUST E OF MADISON VOR IN ORDER TO CIRCUMNAV THE LINE OF TSTMS. AFTER CLRING THE TSTM E OF HVN, IT WAS NECESSARY TO CONTINUE S TO CIRCUMNAV ANOTHER CELL OVER LONG ISLAND SOUND, SE OF HVN. 30-35 NM NE OF FRG, WE RECEIVED THE FRG ATIS WHICH STATED THAT FRG WAS IFR WITH 2 MI VISIBILITY AND A THUNDERSHOWER OVERHEAD. WE CONTACTED FRG TWR AND CONFIRMED THE ATIS RPT. THE CAPT REQUESTED A SVFR CLRNC INTO FRG. THIS REQUEST WAS GRANTED INTO THE FRG CTL ZONE. TWR ADVISED AN APPROX 10 MIN DELAY AND ASKED FOR OUR PRESENT POS. WE ADVISED FRG TWR THAT WE WERE 28 NM NE OF FRG, AND WOULD HOLD OVER DPK VOR AT 1700' AND AWAIT THE SVFR CLRNC. 7 MI NE OF DPK VOR, FRG TWR ADVISED US THAT WE WERE CLRED INTO THE FRG CTL ZONE AT OR BELOW 1500' SVFR. WE PROCEEDED INBND XING DIRECTLY OVER FRG AT 800'. WE ENTERED A RIGHT DOWNWIND FOR RWY 19 AND WERE CLRED TO LAND BY FRG TWR. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 180374: UPON CLRING THE RWY, THE TWR ADVISED THAT THE LONG ISLAND APCH HAD SHOWN UP ENTERING THE NW EDGE OF THE ARSA. I RESPONDED BY EXPLAINING OUR DEVIATION FROM COURSE FOR WX AVOIDANCE AND THAT IT WAS POSSIBLE THAT I HAD ENTERED THE ARSA AT SOME POS OF THE FLT WHILE IN RADIO CONTACT WITH FRG TWR BEFORE DSNDING TO 1500'. AFTER LNDG I CONTACTED THE SUPVR ON DUTY IN THE LONG ISLAND RADAR FAC. HE TOLD ME THAT HE JUST WANTED TO LET ME KNOW THAT HIS RADAR HAD SHOWN THE ACFT IN THE ARSA FOR A SHORT PERIOD AND THAT NO RADIO CONTACT WAS ESTABLISHED WITH THE CTLRS. I EXPLAINED THE REASON FOR THE DEVIATION AND THAT I WAS IN CONTACT WIT THE FRG TWR AT THE TIME.
