Narrative:

Altitude deviation in response to TCAS RA. On vectors for visibility approach runway 30L stl. Assigned altitude 4500'. In descent to 4500' received TCAS TA, followed by ATC advisory of traffic on final at 11 O'clock, 4500'. Visibility contact followed, then RA. Complied with RA (approximately 1500' descent) and went through assigned altitude by 300-400'. Started climb back to altitude and received clearance for visibility approach 30L following the traffic. Traffic was never closer than 2 mi. We were on downwind and traffic was on visibility final. Clearance for visibility approach came shortly after altitude deviation. High level of radio traffic.
