Narrative:
Problem arose due to exceptionally narrow taxiway and proximity of hangar to taxiway, right wingtip barely hit trunk lid of car parked in front of hangar. Aircraft was maneuvered as far to left as I could go due to taxiway markers, however, it was not far enough. It appeared I was over far enough, however, I wasn't (judgement). Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information. Reporter states that local people told him that hangars or obstructions must be 400' from centerline. Airport is aware of the problem and have plans to remove hangars. Reporter admits he should have been more cautious.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: SMT TAXIING HAS WINGTIP HIT TRUNK OF CAR PARKED NEAR HANGAR.
Narrative: PROB AROSE DUE TO EXCEPTIONALLY NARROW TXWY AND PROX OF HANGAR TO TXWY, R WINGTIP BARELY HIT TRUNK LID OF CAR PARKED IN FRONT OF HANGAR. ACFT WAS MANEUVERED AS FAR TO L AS I COULD GO DUE TO TXWY MARKERS, HOWEVER, IT WAS NOT FAR ENOUGH. IT APPEARED I WAS OVER FAR ENOUGH, HOWEVER, I WASN'T (JUDGEMENT). CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO. RPTR STATES THAT LCL PEOPLE TOLD HIM THAT HANGARS OR OBSTRUCTIONS MUST BE 400' FROM CTRLINE. ARPT IS AWARE OF THE PROB AND HAVE PLANS TO REMOVE HANGARS. RPTR ADMITS HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN MORE CAUTIOUS.
