Narrative:
Taxi incident: after SOP pushback from gate at sfo (our aircraft now parallel to terminal taxiway) with a widebody transport at next gate, we began taxi. Medium large transport from gate nearby was starting engines after pushback ahead and to our nose left. We began taxi after pushback man had saluted and released us from guidance with 2 arms pointed toward the inner taxiway. A sharp turn was required to move, after approximately 20 degree of turn our aircraft stopped. We had impacted the widebody transport (our vertical stabilizer/its left elevator/horizontal stabilizer). Moderate damage to both aircraft. Factors: widebody transport at that gate (unusual). 2 aircraft push out from adjacent gates simultaneously. Relatively inexperienced mechanic pushing back. And only 1 man on pushback that was in tight quarters. Captain could not see widebody transport, first officer view of widebody transport limited to left wing and nose. Relied on pushback/release to keep us clear and allow us room to maneuver (we sure wouldn't have taxied to where we were!)

FACTORS: WDB AT THAT GATE (UNUSUAL). 2 ACFT PUSH OUT FROM ADJACENT GATES SIMULTANEOUSLY. RELATIVELY INEXPERIENCED MECHANIC PUSHING BACK. AND ONLY 1 MAN ON PUSHBACK THAT WAS IN TIGHT QUARTERS. CAPT COULD NOT SEE WDB, FO VIEW OF WDB LIMITED TO LEFT WING AND NOSE. RELIED ON PUSHBACK/RELEASE TO KEEP US CLR AND ALLOW US ROOM TO MANEUVER (WE SURE WOULDN'T HAVE TAXIED TO WHERE WE WERE!)
