Narrative:
Flight a den-slc scheduled to fly aircraft X but instead flew aircraft Y, arrived at gate Q which had aircraft Y parked at it. Got released, but failed to notice we were supposed to take aircraft X which was parked at right. Did normal preflight check, fuel WX, MEL, etc, but failed to notice aircraft number did not correspond. Previous night we checked and were told that was the aircraft scheduled for our flight. Did not notice change until we were informed upon arrival in slc that we had brought back wrong aircraft. Could alleviate problem by putting name of captain on releases plus easier to read format of releases. We were on a continuous duty overnight. Had 5 hours at motel, departed XF00 am.
